Ask an Expert: What Should You Do When You and Your Partner Are Not on the Same Page About the Future of Your Relationship?

It can be tempting to hold onto a partner even when you disagree about the future of your relationship, but this may not be the best option in the long run.

It can be tempting to hold onto a partner even when you disagree about the future of your relationship. After all, you probably have some serious chemistry (otherwise you wouldn't be together).

But, whether you want marriage or you hope to keep it casual, the relationship won't work if your partner isn't at the same level of commitment.

Be open and honest about your hopes for the future but don't sit around waiting for your partner to change. Otherwise, someone is bound to get hurt in the end and you'll have wasted a lot of time on a relationship that wasn't meant to be.
