Psychology Online Degree - Are Online Degree Programs Respected by All Employers?

Psychology Online Degree

Although a growing segment of the workplace is turning to enrolling in internet based certification programs as a way to give their resume a little boost, many workers are concerned that an internet certification may not carry the same weight as a degree that was completed in a more traditional academic setting. While these degrees are certainly not the equivalent of an Ivy League education in the work place, the fact of the matter is that a degree that was completed from home has the same amount of merit as a degree issued by an average university in the eyes of most employers.

If you asked employers what they thought of online certifications a decade ago, you would find a wide range of responses varying from general approval to serious misgivings. However, the view that most employers have of this method of education has changed a great deal as more and more of our professional and personal lives have become integrated into the internet. Today's employers are well aware of the vast array of multimedia resources that are offered by modern online academic institutions, and most business managers and human resources professionals have completed a few classes of their own that were based on the internet. As a result, nearly all employers are willing to view an online certification as being the equivalent of a traditional degree so long as it was issued by a properly accredited institution.

The one major exception to be aware of when it comes to these certifications is that your certification must be earned from an institution that has earned a proper amount of respect from the academic community to accredited. Unfortunately, there are a number of unscrupulous companies out there called diploma mills that claim to be academic institutions but are actually issuing worthless certificates to anyone who is willing to fork over their tuition fees. Many of these accredited institutions even require students to complete online classes, and some students proudly present their diploma mill certificates only to find that they are not worth anything in the workplace. Thankfully, you can easily find out if an academic institution is properly accredited by doing a brief amount of research online.

The other thing to consider with these types of degrees is that there are some professions that require a person to have a fair amount of hands on experience before they can qualify for an entry level job. If you are studying online to become a nurse or law enforcement officer, it is a good idea to find a way to obtain a little bit of work experience while you are working on your certification.

NOTE: by researching and comparing the best online degree programs in the educational field, you will determine the one that will help you to ignite the spark of a brand new career but meeting perfectly your financial needs.
